“Multichannel Direct” is not high end sound…is it?

I just got the denon avr-1908 receiver and have everything set up…but I have my ps3 hooked up with an HDMI cable but when I use the receivers menu to display the audio input it says the input is “Multi Ch direct” and the signal is PCM, with a “fs” of 48hz.

Multi-Ch direct is the best quality settings – it means you are using the uncompressed tracks (linear PCM). You can get Dolby/DTS is you switch to BITSTREAM – but they are compressed.
On regular DVDs I believe 48hrz is the highest available. Blu-Ray is up to 192hrz
Make sure you elect DTS-HD, DOLBY-HD or Uncompressed soundtrack on your DVD menu!
